Scott Johnson Ashtanga Yoga Teacher & Practitioner Training Primary Series

We are so excited to announce that renowned Ashtanga Yoga teacher SCOTT JOHNSON (London | Stillpoint Yoga) will be back again in Cologne!
Join him for a special 5-DAY TEACHER & PRACTITIONER INTENSIVE and experience A MINDFUL APPROACH TO THE ASHTANGA YOGA PRIMARY SERIES.

This training is for Yoga teachers and Ashtanga practitioners who are interested in learning more about the practice and teaching of the Primary Series of Ashtanga yoga.

At the end of the 30 hour training you will receive a certificate of attendance. YAP (Yoga Alliance Professionals) accredited teachers will be able to register the hours as CPD (Continuing Professional Development).

Outline of the training

The postural sequencing of the Primary Series is a beautiful and deep inquiry into how movement, strength, and space interact with the physical body. It asks us to listen deeply to the sensations that arise through the process of vinyasa and develop wisdom about how we act. Our focus is always on keeping the body safe while fostering a vibrant and energetic physical nature.

The Primary Series is also called Yoga Chikitsa, yoga therapy. At its heart, we see how the Primary Series develops as a personal tool for healing and transformation for the body/mind/breath system.

When we undertake a practice like the Primary Series, we are learning about movement, breath, and ultimately about where we place our awareness. Each pose asks us to notice something about ourselves, a new connection, a different perspective.

This training will help you see how the evolution of the Primary Series relates to a pattern of movements that are intertwined to create a fluid whole. You will learn to recognize how these patterns play out in your own practice and in the practice of others

What is the training

  • This training will give you a deep understanding of the process of development throughout the primary series.
  • We will look at movement principles and alignment of the postures. We will then practice safe yoga assists and adjustments as a response to these inquiries.
  • We will learn to become more confident in how to help and guide people within the postures that are presented and how to make positive choices for ourselves and others.
  • There will also be daily yoga philosophy presentations and discussions that will help to land how we help ourselves and others.
  • The practice of Ashtanga yoga is deeply moving. We will see how the practice has moved us and realize this is an ongoing process. That we are moving breath to breath, movement to movement. Over the five days we will track and discover that process and journey in each of us.

Who is this training for?

This training is for teachers of Ashtanga yoga or all experienced practitioners of Ashtanga yoga. A knowledge of the full primary series is helpful.

What will you learn

  • Anatomical references.
  • Movement patterns and theory.
  • Helpful safe adjustments
  • The vinyasa count for each posture.
  • How different bodies respond to the postures.
  • Yoga philosophy.

What you will leave with

A Comprehensive Understanding of The Primary Series Sequencing

Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the postural sequencing of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series, learning how movement, strength, and space interact with the physical body. This knowledge will enhance their ability to maintain safety while fostering a vibrant and energetic practice.

Personal Healing, Growth and Transformation

Students will explore the therapeutic aspects of the Primary Series, known as Yoga Chikitsa, and develop it as a personal tool for healing and transformation in their own practice. This training will deepen their awareness of how the practice can positively impact the body, mind and breath system.

Insight into Movement Patterns, Adjustments and Awareness

Through the practice and study of the Primary Series, participants will learn to recognize and understand the intricate patterns of movement in their own bodies. One that creates a fluid and cohesive practice. They will cultivate this heightened awareness and begin to see them in the practice of others, leading to a more mindful and connected approach to yoga for all.

Yoga Philosophy

We will also take a detailed look at the Yamas from the eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga, unpacking how each of these relational observances play out in our lives…

1. Ahimsa (non-harming/non-violence)
2. Satya (truthfulness)
3. Asteya (non-stealing)
4. Brahmacharya (wise use of energy)
